Volume always at max or mute, no in-between

I’m on a fresh install of Fedora 38 Workstation on a Lenovo Yoga Slim Pro 7 14ARP8. Downloaded all the updates and everything is working fine except for the audio.

Volume is always at max or muted, doesn’t matter where I position the slider.
I’ve tried this fix gnome - My volume is either max volume or muted, no middle ground - Ask Ubuntu but it results in a misaligned volume slider between pipewire and the audio card (checked this through alsamixer)

My exact same problem was posted here Fedora 36 PipeWire Master Does Not Control Sound Card PCM Volume Linearly - #4 by ilikelinux, the only difference being that mine affects both the speakers and headphones.

My current workaround is the following:

Modify analog-output.conf.common in /usr/share/alsa-card-profile/mixer/paths by adding

[Element Master]
switch = mute
volume = zero

before

[Element PCM]
switch = mute
volume = merge
override-map.1 = all
override-map.2 = all-left,all-right

and then control the volume manually through alsamixer because the gnome volume slider is not aligned to the PCM control in alsamixer, resulting in a lower volume (almost inaudible) at lower levels (e.g when the slider is at 50%, PCM is set to 30).

Hello Gabriele,

Have you managed to make it work? I have the same laptop and am facing the same issue with CachyOS (KDE).

Just leaving it here in case anyone has the same trouble, but this fixed it for me: Reddit - Dive into anything
