Updating Lynis and Rkhunter

Could someone be so kind as to clearly tell me, step by step, in full, how to update Lynis and Rkhunter? I simply cannot figure out how to do it.

I would like to know why the latest versions of Fedora do not come with the latest versions of Lynis and Rkhunter. When I installed these programs, I did not get the latest versions.

Trying to update rkhunter gives me this fixed screen that does not continue downloading:

[wang@localhost ~]$ sudo rkhunter --update
[ Rootkit Hunter version 1.4.6 ]

Checking rkhunter data files...

The sad truth is that I had a rootkit on a computer in my house last year. It was not a false positive.
Here in China it’s a lush environment for certain kinds of malware. I am running Fedora 30 and using Astrill VPN.

Hello @jackyjack—welcome to the community!

rkhunter 1.4.6 appears to be the latest version, so Fedora is shipping it. The command you are using seems to refer to updating the rkhuter database which does not seem to be provided by Fedora—it is provided by the rkhunter people. (Someone with more rkhunter experience can confirm).

I see an open bug for lynis about a new version. Please ping the bug. In most cases, maintainers are slow to update because they volunteer to maintain these packages in their free time and they’ve just gotten too busy with life and work. If you can help them by co-maintaining the package, they really appreciate it. More information on this here.
