I’m experiencing an issue where two of my CPU cores stay off-line on my Fedora system. On boot, I encounter MCE hardware errors that indicate multiple issues with the processors. Despite these errors, I can still access my desktop and use my PC.
I was able to bring all 8 cores online by booting with Ubuntu, which suggests that the issue might be related to compatibility with fedora kernel.
I’m aware that updating the BIOS might help resolve the issue, but I’m afraid about bricking my motherboard.
OS: Fedora Linux 40 (KDE Plasma) x86_64 (previously Fedora 39, with the same issue)
Kernel: 6.9.9-200.fc40.x86_64
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z270P-D3 (BIOS version F5, latest is F8)
CPU: Intel(R) Core™ i7-7700K
Cooling/Temperature: No issues detected
RAM: No issues detected
Here are the logs from the systemd journal related to MCE
Are there any others steps I should consider to fix the issue before trying to update my BIOS?
