Thunderbird Release Channel

Mozilla has been trying to encourage people to switch to the Thunderbird monthly release channel. The default download button on their website downloads a release version instead of an ESR version, which is what Fedora currently ships.

Are there any plans to switch the version of Thunderbird that Fedora ships from ESR builds to the release version? I know Fedora tends to be fairly cutting-edge as far as point-release distributions go, but I can’t find any existing plans to switch.

May I point you you to this thread, where this was already discussed recently?

Short summary:

  • for the Fedora RPM somebody would need to open a Bugzilla issue so the maintainers can update the channel.
  • not even the Flatpak on Flathub, which is maintained by the Thunderbird folks AFAIK, has been updated to the Release channel, yet.

It’s very easy to install the latest version though. Even a noob like me could do this. Better than waiting. Link is in the thread that @l-c-g mentioned.
