Hi all,
I really like the new background wallpaper but is there any way I can obtain a resolution suitable for my monitor which is 3440 x 1440?
Cropped/zoomed just doesn’t look great.
You can make requests to the design team at fedora / Design / Fedora Design / Design Requests · GitLab
Or reach out to them on their Matrix at chat.fedoraproject.org #design:fedoraproject.org
The real issue, I think, is that GNOME’s settings tool no longer provides the ability to configure how the source image is fitted to the screen, when the aspect ratio differs.
GNOME Tweaks, though, does.
@slow-life, if you install the Tweaks application, the Appearance settings include a Background > Adjustment preference that can change the fitting mode from the default “Zoom” to any one of “None”, “Wallpaper”, “Centered”, “Scaled”, “Stretched”, or “Spanned”.
I’m not sure what “Wallpaper” means (I suspect it’s a synonym for “tiled”) and “Spanned” is only meaningful for multi-monitor setups, but “Stretched” should fit the image to your screen exactly, which IMHO would look fine. Here’s f42-01-day
scaled to the same aspect ratio as a 3440x1440 screen. (The actual image size is only 30% that, for the purposes of comfortably showing it here.)
(If “Stretched” doesn’t work, try “Scaled”. It’s possible “Stretched” only enlarges smaller images, and doesn’t shrink larger ones. The input file is 4032x3024.)
