It seems youâre running a virtual machine but your user isnât in the libvirt group (or whatever group necessary for you hypervisor). Adding you user to the right group should make this unnecessary.
It pops up without me doing anything involving virtual machines though. Just out of the blue it pops up.
Is there any way to see what process is opening it?
I guess a bit more Information would not be a bad idea.
Could you please give us more infoâs as :
inxi -Fzx
in terminal and post the output as </> Preformatted text here.
On a other topic you replied the above. So I just can guess that you still talk about Silverblue ?!
If you not had time yet, please also read #start-here, so you have a idea whatâs useful information to help you.
journalctl -f -u polkit.service
should provide the log information.

I thought âworkstationâ implied ânot silverblueâ, so I guess my post on that thread was unclear. Bottom line I donât have Silverblue, Iâm running the regular Fedora 36 install.
At one point I created a VM in Gnome Boxes, and then I tried working with virt-manager. I havenât done anything with them in a long time. I just noticed that when I run virt-manager it opens the same popup. But whatâs bothering me is that the popup comes up out of the blue without me doing anything with VMs.
I just the popup and I ran the command and only one line is recent:
Aug 23 02:35:48 naftoli-dell polkitd[1162]: Operator of unix-session:2 FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization for action org.libvirt.unix.manage for unix-process:545305:3963702 [<unknown>] (owned by unix-user:naftoli)
(I pressed Cancel.)
for unix-process:545305:3963702
When this happens, open up another terminal
ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep -e process id -e process id
That should get you the process that is running.
Is part of that placeholder text?
In particular is 545305:3963702
like PPID:PID or something else entirely?
At the time IIRC I tried ps -fp X
where X was either number and didnât get anything.
Then again this was after I canceled the popup so maybe I have to try it in another VT while the popup is open (because it blocks the entire DE VT).
