Is fedora going to support RTL8111/8168/8211/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 15) ever again? I have no wired internet since a few updates ago. Removing hardware support seems strange and nobody is interested in helping me with this issue (yes, I asked on this forum before) either, so here I am asking the question before installing another distribution.

Hardware support is largely a kernel matter, so if it isn’t working on Fedora there’s no guarantee that another distribution will help.

It looks like your last post was between Christmas and New Years - I suspect a lot of people weren’t paying as much attention then. As always with Fedora though, you are reliant on people’s spare time and goodwill to provide support.

There are several other forum posts about that family of Ethernet adapters - it looks like they have ongoing issues. Have you tried any of the suggestions in the other threads?

In particular, from your last post you had:
enp114s0 ethernet unavailable --
That often means that no cable has been detected on the port, so possibly the second link is more relevant.

I don’t have any devices using that particular adapter, so there’s nothing specific I can suggest unfortunately.

Fedora only packages what is available from upstream developers. A good way to see what actually works in linux is the LHDB. Some unsupported hardware does have out of kernel drivers from individuals, but those don’t get the level of scrutiny provided by kernel.org. Buggy vendor firmware can cause issues even for widely used network controllers from kernel.org. If you have issues with a controller that works for many LHDB probes, you need to consider firmware issues.

I know there is no guarantee that it would work in other distros and I fully understand that I’m reliant on people’s good will and free time as nobody is forced to address my issues. This is why I could only hope others can help me. I’ve tried suggestions from fedora forum and from other places. I’ve even installed r8168-dkms, blacklisting the r8169 which didn’t help. It’s nothing that can be done from user’s side apparently. It’s a shame, as I don’t want to go back to Windows.

While I normally use wifi, my mobo has this adapter which has worked for me every time I plug the cable in.
