@Hank I agree with you on this that mentorship is not a right, and good mentors are rare to come by
I think we got caught up in the wordplay a bit in this thread. So i’ll add to it
Mentorship can be seen as deep, almost family-like relationship. But it doesn’t mean it has to be that way.
I interpret the Everyone is a Mentor slogan as the attempt to make mentorship more accessible and less of a sacred topic only available to wise and enlightened.
Yes, you may be not going to become a next Confucius, you may be will make mistakes or do not spend enough time, you maybe won’t become a teacher for life. And yes, it might be better to change the approach from 1x1 mentorship to group activities in this case, so that lightweight mentors learn from each others mistakes and from their peers. Yes it redefines mentoring.
But that’s exactly the point, isn’t it?
The goal is not to make everyone into a perfect Mentor. The goal is to improve everyone’s life by spreading out good mentoring practices to us - regular imperfect people and find ways how our imperfections as mentors can be reduced with the help of the community.
