Hi all, I want to look for a new 1080p webcam for my Fedora desktop under $50 USD. I want easy Linux compatibility and was using the Linux UVC supported devices list as a reference, but I’m finding a lot of pre-2010 hardware on that list. My use case is only for video conference calls. I have an external microphone already, so a microphone is not required.
I was hoping to find a good steal for Black Friday or Cyber Monday here in the US, but before shopping, I wanted to make sure I can buy something I will actually get to use.
Any recommendations? And if you have a recommendation, why that webcam over another?
Nope. Since I was going in sort of blind without knowing about Linux support (and since return policies are usually not great), I decided to wait. I’m still open for suggestions though.

Considering “Black Friday/Cyber Monday” are over, did you decide for one
device? If so, did it work? Why (not)?

One of the issues I have with webcams on Linux is for the first few minutes the webcam is activated, the video is distorted and different colored lines / noise run through my video feed. Additionally, some tools don’t recognize my webcam unless I restart them enough times. I’m hoping to find something where this won’t be an issue.
