Login to Fedora 40 Cinnamon always fails on first attempt

Hello everybody,

I’ve just moved to fedora 40 Cinnamon Spin from Gnome on two machines - one is an acer travelmate spin B1 the second a dell xps 13.
On both machines I encounter the same strange behaviour. When I start the computers fresh after a short while appears the login screen. After entering the password the screen turns black, the mouse cursor appears, but the screen stays black an obviously hangs. I have to switch off the computer by the power switch (which happens at once without delay). After a new start I’m able to login.
Does this happen always? - No, not always but almost. I have tried wayland as well to the same result on both machines.

Has anybody found a solution?

Thanks and regards

@dimpflmoser Welcome to :fedora: :handshake:t5:

Can you provide some details from logs journalctl -b | grep -i plymouth

I am also looking into an issue during boot, kind of unrelated but possibly not.

There are no reported issues like this reported against lightdm, slick-greeter, cinnamon-session or cinnamon.

Try posting the lightdm and slick-greeter logs for further help, also look at dmesg for clues.
