Kernels 6.12 and 6.13 are reporting SDD Temperature 5 degrees C lower than 6.6

Someone know why this is? It’s constantly repeatable using munin.

Not that it bothers me, I just wonder.

This is quite old firmware and there may be an update that could change the values reported. It could be related to the way the newer kernels interface with the firmware since there have been several cases where problems seen after an upgrade to a 6.13 kernel have been fixed by updating the bios firmware on the system.

It could be due to recent work on improving power management. For example, s2idle was more likely to be activated with the 6.0 kernel release. As other impediments to low-power states have gradually been overcome in the kernel and drivers in recent years, it is entirely possible that your SSD really is running cooler (and drawing less power).
