Kernel 6.9.x won't boot after upgrade

I recently upgraded my wokstation computer to the latest updates within Fedora 40 and this brought an upgrade to the 6.9.x kernel series (initially 6.9.4 when I first tried to update last week but 6.9.5 now resulted in the same issue). I’m thankfully using Fedora Silverblue and hence it was a simple rollback to be up and runnign again.

I am getting this error on boot. I’ve never seen anything similar before.

I’ve attached the system report from the about screen below but there is basically nothing strange going on here setup wise. No Nvidia drivers or other external graphics cards and no other external PCI cards connected. Just an old i7 running two monitors from the internal graphics.

The fix in Boot might fail with "vmlinuz[…] has invalid signature" in atomic desktops seemed to solve the issue. However, this seems like something that shoeldn’t have happened in the first place. Should the bootloader not be updated automatically?
