KDE Plasma slow to boot/shutdown

When I restart KDE Plasma, it takes a while for the system to shut down, which I guess isn’t too weird, but it does take a long time to start up. It boots up fine, but it pauses for about a minute on the wallpaper and mouse. The taskbar isn’t visible, Command button won’t work until it fully starts up.

Another weird thing I noticed is when we try to open a folder of bookmarks in Firefox, it also crashes it. I’m not sure if it’s related.

Some of the things I’ve done that I think caused the issue was:

  • I attempted to install Steam and play a game. The game froze as I tried to play it, so I forced shutdown my computer. I uninstalled Steam after that.
  • I updated mesa and a few other packages using Discover. I typically just update using dnf, but it didn’t let me update those packages through dnf – Discover kept requesting I update on the program.

And finally, another weird thing I noticed was WirePlumber taking up 100% of the CPU. This Reddit comment helped me by telling me to run systemctl --user restart wireplumber, which fixed any Firefox-related issues, but the issues continue after rebooting.

Again, I’m not sure which of these could be the cause. Here’s my output for asahi-diagnose: asahi-diagnose - Pastebin.com

Edit: Messing around with my system. This shouldn’t go absolutely wrong. :^)

I uninstalled pipewire and wireplumber, and that seems to have done it. Any issues I was having disappeared. Though, I’m going to try to reinstall it because, well, I’d like audio. I’ll add anything new to this reply as an edit.

Edit: Reinstalling them returned the same 100% CPU issue.

Edit 2: I’ve noticed that trying to change my audio using the taskbar crashes the audio popup.

perhaps journalctl -b -g wireplumber will show something useful

This is the output:

That looks basically the same as mine… how about journalctl -b -g pulseaudio.

Wait, I was just about to update my reply because something new showed up.

aha, something dodgy happened at 43:26. Did you do anything… special at that time? Start playing sound or something?

I wanna say that’s the sound the desktop makes when you startup. Or maybe it’s when I try to turn up/down audio and the sound that would play tried to play.

The Volume taskbar popup says “Connection to the Sound Service Lost.”

I ran systemctl --user restart wireplumber and got this, too: Nov 22 15:42:19 Carlos-MacbookAir systemd[1240]: Started wireplumber.service - M - Pastebin.com

This sounds like it is a side effect of a bug in lsp-plugins-lv2 in Fedora 41 (lsp-plugins-lv-1.2.19-1.fc41). The fixed lsp-plugins-lv2-1.2.19-2.fc41 should be available now.
If not a sudo dnf downgrade lsp-plugins-lv2 to version 1.2.16* should fix it as well.

Downgrading did it. Thank you! Waiting for the update to propagate.

Edit: Update works well too!
