the issue was unfortunately not fixed in “dracut-asahi-20240411-2”. “dracut-asahi-20240411-3” fixes the issue should be now distributed via the fedora-asahi-remix-hotfixes repository

today’s (2024-04-24) Fedora Asahi Remix’ kernel-16k-6.8.7-402.asahi update update resulted in a couple of issues all caused by a problematic dracut configuration.
The most serious problem is missing keyboard support in the initramfs. This prevents luks users from entering their passphrase and to boot. Other potential issues are (temporary) loss of display output, failures to reboot or shutdown and maybe other unexpected behavior.
The issues has been fixed in dracut-asahi-20240411-3 which is currently distributed via the fedora-asahi-remix-hotfixes repository before it will become available via fedora proper in the coming days. If th dracut-asahi update is installed together with the kernel update no issues are expected.
If the kernel is already installed dracut-asahi-20240411-3 must be installed immediately with dnf --refresh upgrade and kernel-16k-6.8.7-402.asahi’s shouldinitramfs must be refreshed with dracut --force --kver 6.8.7-402.asahi.fc39.aarch64+16k*.
If the kernel update resulted in an unbootable system it can be recovered by booting an old kernel via grub’s menu. The menu is usually not shown but can be displayed by pressing esc after “Booting: nvme 0” is shown. Once the system is booted function can be restored with the steps in the previous paragraph.
Please open a new discussion if further problems persists or above steps are not sufficient to restore systems. I’m sorry for the disruption.
Note on Fedora-Asahi-Remix 40: Display output with kwin_wayland 6 is not smooth due to not fully understood issues with the display controller’s framebuffer swapping. Otherwise no critical issues are known but testing is insufficient. There will be a separate announcement when the update to Fedora-Asahi-Remix 40 is recommended.
