"I want to donate to Fedora, why is that not possible?" - How to donate to other FOSS projects instead!

We are not all developers

Linux and open source was a “developers making stuff for developers” thing at the beginning.

But this is long over, a majority of users is not able to contribute code, infrastructure or other integral parts of FOSS.

But there is always money. Developers make this awesome ecosystem in their free time, and if they get more money, they can invest more time in it or reduce their main working hours and have some more free time!

Funding is a big issue in FOSS, because nobody needs to pay for anything.

Not so well known projects

This is especially unseen when developers make small libraries that the whole world uses, but nobody knows about. Did you know that…

  • Videolan makes libdvdcss which is why we can use DVDs on Linux, BSD and other free systems?
  • OpenSSL is why we have a secure internet today?
  • ffmpeg together with Videolan libraries is the main reason why we can playback, modify and create video and audio files?

There are so many projects to donate to!

We can’t donate to Fedora directly, but Fedora is also just the tip of the iceberg.

I updated this repository full or donation links, where you can find projects you may use, and how to donate to them!

Contribute to Fedora

I invested too much time into this…

So you paid your dues then  No need to part with your cash

That is a great big list. Great work on it.

My advice would be to donate to the smallest and newest project one can find. A lot of the major projects recieve considerable coverage and corporate sponsorships anyway.

Yeah the list also needs an overhaul. I make a front page and place the others in separate files. Less focus on big organizations as those tend to burn money I think

Not sure if that is just because they dont invest as much free labor and burnout into FOSS ;(
