I have tried and tried, unable to get MPD working on my F42 Workstation

And at this point, I am close to giving up. I would appreciate assistance before I give up for good.

I will respond with any info you want that will assist you in assisting me.

What is MPD?

Music Player Daemon.

How did you install MPD?

No offense, but if you dont even know what it is, how useful can you be in assisting me with it?

OK, bye.

As an aside, despite your preface I would definitely be offended by your tone.

That said, it’s not a bad idea to search for this sort of thing. It turns out (unsurprisingly) that you’re not the first person to have an issue with MPD on Fedora. Since you provided exactly two pieces of information:

“MPD doesn’t work” and “you don’t know what MPD is? You’re obviously a moron, shut the hell up!”

As such, it’s difficult to help you sort out your issue. See the links below. Perhaps they’ll be helpful.

My apologies - I managed to mark this as spam and I can’t see a way to unmark it! It’s actually the page for the mpd front end gui it seems, despite having a weird name and an odd description, it’s legit!

Can we take it down a notch please and thanks.

Not knowing much about MPD, maybe start with the suggestions in this post, Help with MPD

Thanks

You may see it that way, but that’s the impression it gave me. So no, not a “deliberate mischaracterization,” but rather the clear implication (IMNSHO) of your statement.

In this case, yes. Given that the person was trying to help and you gave the barest minimum of information and specifically said

You were asked for information and dismissed the volunteer that was trying to help you.

Wow. You really don’t want help for this, do you? Did you just come to insult and demean the folks that are most likely to be able to help you resolve your issue?

Good luck resolving your issue. Have a nice day!

sudo dnf remove mpd

problem solved.

I use this app to help me setup mpd, it’s suitable for alsa only.

https://leigh123linux.fedorapeople.org/pub/play/mpd-configure.tar.xz

just extract it and run

./mpd-configure

Please mark this as the solution so others can find it easily.

Since there were several posts, including your third one, that are bordering on the edge of the CoC and definitely tended to indicate less than “being excellent to everyone” as well as offensive I have set this thread into slow mode.

We all need to take time and address the issue and not become offended about posts nor offensive to others in our replies.

When asking for help with an issue, you should provide enough detail to allow others with similar hardware to reproduce your issue. You need to ensure that Fedora packages and vendor firmware are fully updated (because few helpers will have time to duplicate the full list of installed packages. It is not always possible to downgrade firmware!).

Posting the output from running inxi -Fzxx in a terminal (as pre-formatted web-searchable text) provides a useful hardware summary.

I dont run scripts I find on the internet without reading them. I copied the url for this website from your script, I thought it would be interesting reading about configuring mpd…

The site that originally provided the script is non-functional due to missing git submodule due to broken url.

Here’s the fixed url SON|DA / alsa-capabilities · GitLab

That’s why I provide a complete script.
