HP Victus 15 i5 12450h RTX 2050 Support

Hello, Recently I’ve baught a hp victus 15, the laptop comes with windows 11 pre-installed. My question is, Are all the necessary drivers ready to install fedora on this laptop? On my previous laptop hp 15s arch was my main dustro.
But I’m scared to install linux on this laptop, because of various horror stories I’ve read on other forums,

  • gpu not working as expected.
  • bugs with suspend, shutdown and reboot.
  • draining battery in sleep mode.
  • no good nvidia drivers.
  • etc.

I am a student, and developer tools are great on linux, I want to switch to linux, if there’s no major bugs that is, because don’t want to waste most of my time debugging my linux installation.

Try running a Live USB, maybe one from the Respins SIG. Then use inxi -Fzxx (you may need to install if) to get a list of hardware and the associated drivers.

The HP Victus is marketed as a gaming laptop, Many laptops have both an iGPU and dGPU, so if your model has an iGPU you may not need full support of the dGPU for programming courses. New linux kernels often break support for Nvidia, networking, and sound, so for a system that needs to work without interruptions, it is important to have alternatives such as USB dongles for sound and network. AN iGPU or open source Nvidia drivers (replacements for nouveau to better support recent Nvidia dGPU’s are being developed) may be needed while waiting for Nvidia’s drivers to to be updated.

Hello, @thatsdos
Installing Fedora on an HP Victus 15 with Windows 11 should be feasible, but some issues might arise. Linux support can vary by hardware, especially with GPUs and power management. Check compatibility for your specific GPU model and review forums for any known issues. You may need to tweak configurations or install proprietary drivers. Backup data and prepare for potential troubleshooting to ensure a smooth transition.
