How to use Fedora 40 via RDP?

On Fedora 40, in Gnome Settings, I enabled “desktop sharing” and “remote desktop”. I assigned a username and a password. I noticed the two ports, 3390 and 3389 respectively.

On a Pop!!OS machine, I used the Gnome Remote Desktop Viewer to try to connect to the Fedora 40 by RDP. I punched in the server’s IP address on the Host blank. Initial signs were positive as it showed a “Certificate Verification” dialog. But nothing worked after that. I tried both the desktop-sharing and remote-login port/user/password. There was also a blank for Domain. I left it blank. However, I did not discover a working combination. In in all cases, after a second or two or three, Remote Desktop Viewer cleared out the Password and Domain blanks for me to try again.

How can I connect to Fedora 40 using RDP? Or where might I look for clues?

You have to check on both systems that this ports not are blocked in the firewall.

To debug your issue you have to give us more information about your logfile, the jounal.

If remote desktop is not working, you can try with remina.

Remote Login requires to enable a custom permissive SELinux module:
Gnome Remote Desktop with SELinux enforced - #9 by vgaetera

Be sure to restart the service or reboot to apply the changes.

The successful combination was: SELinux Permissive (/etc/sysconfig/selinux) - I gather there is a specific policy incantation that would allow Enforcing, but it will be an adventure for another day - and remmina as the client.
