VLC. Videos do not play .wav files. The only one playing .wav files is Audacity. That is a bit too heavy for a small .wav file. How to play a .wav file?

Did you try mpv
or ffmpeg
(with ffplay
command)?

You can drag files from file manager to mpv
window, or right click to open them with mpv
.
