I recently installed a fresh copy of Fedora Scientific and I found out that it is based on KDE. I assumed I could easily switch to Gnome later, which I did. However, KDE has effects on Gnome desktop as well. For example, I cannot use some keyboard shortcuts and Window styles as well as circulating progress indicator look KDE style.
I love the simple and accessible approach Gnome has. KDE is nice and shiny, but it’s not for me. I tried to remove KDE by running “dnf remove @kde-desktop”, but I get the following error:
Problem: The operation would result in removing the following protected packages: plasma-desktop
Even, looking at the About section of the OS in Gnome, I see KDE part of the OS name: Fedora Linux 39 (KDE Plasma).
Is there a way I can get the vanilla Gnome experience back or do I have to install a fresh copy of Fedora Workstation? (which I hate because it would make me install many packages again)
