Hello @xxxxx and welcome to !
If you have any questions related to Fedora Silverblue, please ask in the Ask Fedora category by tagging your topics with silverblue and atomic-desktops.
You can also join https://matrix.to/#/#silverblue:fedoraproject.org and read the Fedora Silverblue User Guide :: Fedora Docs if you haven’t already.
What learning curve, with Silverblue you aren’t supposed to touch anything.
Out of curiosity, are you using Fedora Silverblue? Do you have experience with another Fedora image mode system?
yes silver blue 42 and no i have not used Fedora before only Debian based systems.
best of luck, Steve ..
edit. sorry i didn’t realise your post was directed at someone else, i apologise.
Fedora atomic is the best distro i have used. Using since Fedora 35 Kinoite.
Not a problem at all!
Actually, besides being able to tweak up a Fedora image mode system, in the case of Bootable Containers, you can create your own from scratch. So I encourage you to keep exploring, even though it might be a little challenging at first.
Nope, yes, I don’t need the “plus” the “atomic” distros provide and the drawbacks. Both are summarized by the above joking-not-so-joking. You are not supposed to touch anything and to stay confined in your “user”, using self-contained “apps” like flatpak which are hopefully confined in their own space inside your confined “user”. What a Silverblue user must learn in the “learning curve” ironically is to circumvent all the above.
Since you don’t have experience with Fedora’s image mode systems yet, I would suggest you at least give it a try, perhaps in a virtual machine first.
just thought i would give a bit of an update after using Fedora SilverBlue for several days.
everything is working just fine. im used to sudo because of Ubuntu and Debian, so no hardships there.
have got the desktop looking and working the way i want, thank you Gnome extensions.
Fedora SilverBlue seems very robust and the roll back feature at boot is very handy. flatpaks seem to working much better then snaps with most of the programs i use and need.
i have to decided to run Fedora 6 months behind. at the moment i am on F42SB.
i believe F43SB is released in about Oct/Nov 2025 but i wont upgrade to F43SB until about the
Apr/May 2026 when F44SB is released so that i am running a release behind the latest Fedora release.
that gives Fedora 6 months to do any required system updates for that release before i install the next release on to my computer. that’s my plan of action so i shall see how it goes.
apart from that all is going well. thank you very much for taking an interest and reading this post.
best of luck, Steve ..
I would suggest you consider upgrading to the latest version of Fedora Silverblue 42 and in a few months to F43. This way you will help the Fedora Silverblue maintainers make it even better.
Hey, Steve. Steven, here. I’ve tried Ubuntu many times in the past and always find myself returning.
