After a recent dnf update, I belatedly noticed that the ‘beloved’ cube animation was no longer an option in Desktop Effects. After a few hours of sleuthwork and the assistance of AI Mixtral, I ultimately was able to attribute the lapse to the lack of the kdeplasma-addons package.
sudo dnf install kdeplasma-addons resulted in:
Installing kdeplasma-addons-0:6.3.2-1.fc41.x86_64 100% | 3.7 MiB/s | 7.2 MiB | 00m02s
Complete!
Whereupon the cube animation was suddenly back as selection from within Desktop Effects in System Settings.
Hopefully, this may help others who run across this issue. Parenthetically, I can’t help but be puzzled over whatever package manager decision(s) culminated in kdeplasma-addons having become ‘lost-in-the-sauce’ during a recent update?
Cheers
