Gnome Screen lock without delay on lid close

Hello,

I am using Fedora 40 with the following specification:

  • OS Type: 64-bit
  • GNOME Version: 46
  • Windowing System: Wayland
  • Kernel Version: Linux 6.9.9-200.fc40.x86_64

I have an issue with Gnome Automatic Screen Lock which locks the screen on lid close even though is set to have a 5 minutes delay.

I have already change the setting on the logind.conf file which are set to ignore and that works preventing the laptop going to suspension mode on lid close.

HandleLidSwitch=ignore
HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=ignore
HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore

This doesn’t prevent Automatic Lock Screen without delay on lid close.

The only way to prevent screen lock on lid close is to disable Automatic Screen Lock which I don’t want to do for security reasons.

This issue might be related to this thread on gnome gitlab which I have hard time making account posting the issue there.

Thank you for help!

I would think that almost everyone would expect the screen lock to be automatic and immediate with the lid close. What if you had the lock delayed then closed the lid to step away from your desk but someone else approached and opened the lid before the lock activated? Immediate security breach!

We are human and don’t always consider every possible situation that may occur.
