Hello Everyone
I am a new Linux User again, I’ve used Ubuntu, OpenSUSE and Arch from 2008-2014, so I am quite rusty with my knowledge. I’ve deleted my Windows installation Completely and today I Installed Fedora Workstation (Gnome) with Auto Partition and FDE. SecureBoot and TPM are Enabled but it that shouldn’t be the issue.
I have a Laptop that came out half a year ago, a Lenovo Thinkbook 13x Gen 4. I have the Intel Ultra 9 185H with integrated Arc Graphics, 32GB Ram and a 2880x1920 120hz Display. As an external Monitor I sometimes use a Lenovo Qreator 27 4K 60hz Display, connected with USB-C.
[Solved]
After I installed Fedora, I went into the Software Center and started all the Updates. I also changed the Display Refresh Rate from 60 to 120hz. When rebooting, after the Updates were done, my Laptop froze on the loading icon. I’ve tried googling and I know that the issue for that Problem lies with the 6.11.11 Kernel, since the 6.11.4 Kernel (the other Kernel I can select during boot), works.
My Question regarding this problem: How can I install the 6.11.10 Kernel and use that one until a new Kernel Update drops?
[Solved]
The Second Issue I have is that my Laptop Monitor is extremely laggy and moving Windows or all animations stutter quite a lot. My External Monitor seems fine on the other hand. I have a 150% scaling on my External Monitor and 200% scaling on my Laptop Monitor. But when I disconnect the External Monitor and use the Laptop only, I still have the same issue. It also lags with 60hz, but it’s less notable.
On Windows my Laptop supported Dynamic Refresh Rate - maybe that might be an issue? Or maybe it has something to do with the Kernel? How can this be fixed?
So far, I’ve installed RPMFusion with the Graphical option from - Configuration - RPM Fusion
And I’ve installed additional Codecs, switch to full ffmpeg, added the Intel Hardware accelerated Codec, DVD Playability and Various Firmwares - All with the Terminal commands from here - Howto/Multimedia - RPM Fusion
I have also tried fwupdmgr upgrade
but there was no Firmware that needed an Update. So far, I haven’t touched anything else or installed anything else.
I also read that the output from sudo journalctl -b -l -e
could be of use, so here it is:

[Disregard in this topic, I will create a new Thread only to the Camera Problem]
And Lastly, my Camera doesn’t work. Someone already did some work on this and I found This Reddit Post and This One. This Person also created a GitHub - GitHub - craigcabrey/thinkbook-13x-gen4-enablement: Tracking hardware enablement for Linux on the 2024 ThinkBook 13x Gen4
According to this Person, The Camera could be enabled, but I am not quite sure, how I should do this. Can you tell me how to fix this as well?
Thank you all for your help. If this Post is too big, I could also split it up in 3 different Posts. Please treat me like a Linux Beginner, because that’s where my knowledge is at. I know how to solve most issues on Windows and I tried applying my skill to solve my Problems on Linux as well.
Kind Regards
Solutions:
For the Stuttering and Lagging I found the following fix that worked perfectly for me:
For the Freeze during bootup, I believe it had something to do with my camera. I tried fixes I found, one of them was sudo dnf install akmod-intel-ipu6
and the other was sudo dnf install v4l-utils
. My Camera still doesn’t work, it doesn’t even get recognized now but my PC boots now normally with the Kernel 6.11.11 and works great so far. So something got changed with these two commands that fixed the freeze during boot.
I will create a new topic for the camera to create focus of this topic only and I will leave this one as solved.
