Hello.
In my setup I have a server running Fedora Server 40. Sporadically I need to connect a monitor to my machine, I have the monitor oriented as Right-Portrait on my desk.
I want to configure this into the xorg settings, so the output from the server is oriented properly.
Yet I am struggling to find the correct place for the .conf file, I presume that it should be located in the: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ under proper filename.
Am I right? If so how should the .conf file look like?
You did not tell us what DE is in use, nor what actual fedora spin is in use. Is it server where you have added a DE? or is it another spin such as Workstation which you are using as a server?
If you are using gnome, the gnome settings → display panel should allow configuring the monitor as needed. Simply connect the monitor, open the settings → display panel then configure the monitor as desired. You can select positioning, orientation, resolution, and more in that panel.
Your comments above seem to indicate that you are using X11 as the DE. Please be aware that for new installations of f41 and later the workstation edition is dropping X11 in the default installation.
Regarding the spin that I am using, it’s Fedora Server Edition if I recall correctly the name.
It does not have any Gnome, XFCE etc. on it, I interact with it trough cockpit most of a time, just sometimes something breaks and I need to power on the monitor that is connected to the server.
Yes it seems to be using the X11.
This apparently means you are using a monitor as a text terminal. Is it possible to perform the same actions using ssh without having an attached monitor? In my experience ssh is at a lower level than cockpit.
If not then I am out of ideas.
