Sometimes, when I turn on the screen after it blanks, brightness will be set to maximum without the brightness bar displaying this. Interacting with the brightness bar will set brightness to the displayed level. The left half of the bar will not work, forcing me to use 50% brightness when I prefer lower. Restarting fixes it.
The rename button in Files sometimes doesn’t work. F2 works every time.
Screen sometimes does not turn back on until I close the lid, open it, and try again.
Text Editor does not save my zoom level and always opens with tiny text.
When I open a menu on the top bar and then move my mouse to hover over the button for another menu on it, that menu will open without me clicking.
I can’t check all your issues as I don’t currently have Fedora on a laptop, but neither of my desktop systems had issues 1 or 5 in F39 or now in F40. What is the history – is this a fresh install, did the issues appear with recent updates, etc.?
We need more details: are you dual booting with another OS and what is your hardware (please provide the output from inxi -Fzxx (run in a terminal and paste a pre-formatted text using the </> button)).
Issues with brightness and lid opening (1, 3) may be laptop firmware problems. It is best when reporting problems to ensure that all Fedora and vendor firmware updates have been applied so you aren’t chasing bugs that are already fixed.
Some Gnome Desktop problems are due to use of outdated extensions (often left-overs from previous versions of Fedora). If you create a new user do some of the issues go away for that user?
Edite: Item 4. – If you set zoom level in the dropdown menu that is temporary as you describe. Use preferences if you want to make persistent changes.
