Hey all,
When my desktop falls asleep (Either due to being idle for a certain period of time or manually put to sleep) when I try to wake it back up I’m met with both my monitors backlights turning on, but thats the end of it. I have to reboot to actually get passed that, for now I set my computer to never sleep but of course thats less than ideal.
X11 seems to do this as well (Tried once with X11 and it did indeed happen, although this time it looked like the time popped up and then it froze)
Any ideas? I do have the latest Nvidia drivers from the rpmfusion repo as well.
I don’t have much to add other than this also happens for me sometimes, normally when suspended overnight.

Similar issue for both Nvidia RTX 2070 and AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT/7900 XTX points to something other than GPU issues. First step should be to see if linux has crashed or is still running, in which case you can try connecting from another system using ssh, <Ctrl-Alt F3>
, or the magic SysReq key. The you can use journalctl -b N
to search for relevant error messages.
Providing the output from inxi -Fzxx
gives more details of the drivers actually being used.
I don’t get the issue very often but I will try to ssh if it happens again.

Any ideas on how to debug this? I can not login via ssh, neither ping. An LED on the computer, that is usually permanent on when computer is running, blinks when the computer tries to start after sleep (suspend).

You should start a new thread – this one is months old. Running journalctl
in a terminal may have some useful information, but I get nearly 3000 lines following a boot, so it takes some effort to find relevant entries, and many lines are very long. Each line begins with a date and time, so if you note the time when the system went to sleep you can find a previous boot and start looking around that time. Start with journalctl -b -1 -p 3 | cat
(see man journalctl
for the meaning of these options).
