Reported against the Fedora package here FEDORA-2024-1ce911b57d — unspecified update for mesa — Fedora Updates System
Red Hat bugzilla report by @agurenko here 2299031 – mesa 24.1.4 breaks AV1 video playback in firefox on amdgpu
The issue also seems to be fixable in multiple ways which might further complicate things (can’t really judge as I’m not a packager/developer). But as I understand it now the options seem to be:
- revert back to older version of mesa like I’ve done for the moment
- use newer mesa version together with ffmpeg fixes, this only fixes systemwide ffmpeg, some applications come with their own bundled version of ffmpeg which might still have issues with newer mesa versions
- use newer mesa version together with ffmpeg fixes and also use a fixed version of Firefox, using their own bundled version of ffmpeg, the fixes for this seem to be included from Firefox 130+
