I was really hoping that we could consider each metric to be collected on an individual basis, rather than as part of the proposal to enable telemetry. The change proposal is very clear that approving the change would not allow us to collect particular metrics and each metric would need to be approved separately. i.e. if the change is approved as-is, we still would not be allowed to collect any data because no metrics have been approved yet. (I was hoping to see feedback on what the approval process for metrics would look like.)
I provided several examples of potential metrics in the change proposal, and I’ve also posted my brainstorming list of things we might want to collect in the future in response to previous complaints that there was not enough information on what we would collect. So although we don’t yet have concrete proposals to collect particular metrics, I believe I’ve been as transparent as possible in revealing the sorts of things we might collect in the future. The actual data to be collected will depend primarily on what GNOME designers need and what the Fedora community is willing to accept. I’ve asked the designers to provide some more input on what metrics they’d like to see, to give you a better idea.
Leaving Fedora instead of checking the off switch seems weird, but you’re certainly free to do so…
