Error attempting to boot KDE plasma from usb: verifying shim sbat data failed

I’m on windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 15 - 7567. Secure boot is enabled, but not bitlocker.

I used Fedora media writer to create a bootable usb but get the following message when I try to boot:
“verifying shim sbat data failed security policy violated”

I aim to replace the windows OS entirely, but thought I’d try Fedora first and check I still have permission to access some files I created on windows.

Any help much appreciated. Tia

Currently, you need to disable Secure Boot to boot from a Fedora (or most Linux) USB. One Windows update in August caused this issue, but it should not be a problem if you plan to wipe Windows.

No. That update did not affect Fedora.
It was only distros that have not updated grub in two years that were affected. Fedora’s is not effected.

Which image did you use?

I used the KDE plasma desktop, version 40, Intel/AMD 64bit image.

That cointains a grub that is not effected by the sbat update.

Is you BIOS firmware up to date? You may need an update.

I’ve just done that, on your suggestion, and I get a different error:

Failed to open \EFI\BOOT? - Invalid Parameter
Failed to load image ??: Invalid Parameter
start_image() returned Invalid Parameter, falling back to default loader.

Where I’ve put question marks here were blank squares in the error message.

But it does then proceed to open a live version of Fedora. Is this something that I need to fix before I attempt to install it?
Thanks

Good that the shim issue has gone.

I think it is worth ignoring those messages and doing the fedora install.
If the install fails to boot then we can look deeper.

Ok I’ll give that a go. Thank you
