Ah, Toshiba. OK, thanks. So it looks like Toshiba and LG work well with Linux. I’ll search Amazon.
Following up on this thread…
I bought an LG Slim Portable DVD/CD drive.
Again I say that there is a problem with drivers… or other parts of the OS or with the Haruna and Elisa applications. Haruna hung repeatedly. Elisa didn’t even open.
I have tried loading both DVD and CD content. The DVDs had audio files on them, organized in folders for the various encodings. I tried several music CDs, just standard good 'ol CDs from yesteryear.
I cannot get anything to play from the discs themselves. I was able to copy the DVDs containing audio (only audio, no movies) to my hard drive, but it took over 4 hours to copy 2.3 GiB. Something is seriously wrong.
When I put the DVD in, Dolphin would show the contents of some previous DVD (I had copied the contents of 5 to my hard drive). When I put a CD in the drive, Dolphin showed the contents of the previous DVD disc. It seems that Dolphin was not updating its view (not reading the newly inserted disc?) at all…
I have the LG GP60NB50 (previous model?) and it works quite well. Sometimes it copies slowly, but I put that down to the old CD’s I was ripping.
I am on Sway and use Thunar as file manager.
First thing I would suggest is try other ripping / copying apps. ??
Install rpmfusion repos https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration free and non-free after that install libdvdcss.x86_64: A portable abstraction library for DVD decryption sudo dnf install libdvdcss
Thank you, @theprogram and @ledeni . I’ll look at the options you suggested.
