Optical drive not found

I’m quite sure this is not the first time this question is asked, but I googled my eyes out, and I only land on pages that are either unrelated or do not give a solution. So, excuse me if this is a double.

A few months ago I installed F41, and apart from the default nvidia problems (of course my card isn’t supported anymore, eventho I bought it in January), I just found out another problem, that really bothers me. F41 (Gnome) doesn’t recognize my cdrom anymore. Until my last install (F38) it worked flawless. So of course I ran into this problem when it was most important. I never expected it not to work. I really really have a huge problem for today now.

It’s just not there. Also blkid doesn’t see it, so I cannot mount it manually either. Have optical drives become obsolete all of a sudden? Or is my drive not supported anymore?
Or is these some way of installing it in hidden ways?

I have been using Fedora since FC5 and never experienced any problems.

It looks like there has been some gradual phasing-out of support for optical drives in recent years.[1] Nothing “recent” catches my eye though. Are you sure your drive hasn’t just burned out? I’ve had many fail on me as the laser inevitably weakens to the point that the device can no longer read CDs/DVDs.

To test if it is in the Fedora Linux code, you could try booting an older kernel or booting from a Fedora Live image.

Check the cables to the drive. It is worth unplugging and replugging that may improve contact on the pins.

Thanks for your answer
Cables are definitely plugged in correct. When I placed the new graphics card, I double checked all connections, like I always do.

Thanks for your answer. But it would be a weird coincidence, that it failed when I just upgraded from F38 to F41.
