Cursor lags (F41)

Hello, sometimes it may happen that the cursor lags on fedora 41, has anyone encountered this?seems to happen randomly but moslty when some textbox is displayed, for example the nautilus confirmation you moved or deleted something

for the record, i’m on fedora 41 with gnome and wayland

not a real issue but sometimes cursor can lag heavily and it’s quite tedious

Could you post:
inxi -Fzxx
or
fpaste --sysinfo-short --printonly

in a terminal
and post the output here as pre formated text (</>), please and thanks.

don’t have inxi so here’s sysinfo

I do have this sometimes with my logitech wireless mouse when battery is low. In this case just the battery change helps.

It looks like that you do not have a Wireless mouse right? If yes try to remove and reconnect dongle.

Or do you get the lags with the steam wireless controller? Is battery ok?

i have a steam wireless controller but no, it has it’s kind of issues due to steam input being incompatible with wayland, but this is another thing

i’m really talking about the mouse cursor, and my mouse is an old wired mouse

Yes, I see this too. Moving my mouse cursor over, for example, a Nautilus or Firefox window will show stuttery movement, as if the framerate was low and unstable. This was not present in Fedora 40 and also does not present itself when moving the mouse cursor over the bare desktop background.

Added cursor, f41, gnome, wayland, workstation

Hi, I’m on LXQt spin, F41. X11/xfwm4. Same issue, but it just happens anywhere. But still most commonly when firefox is on screen.

This only started happening a little while after I upgraded to F41. I’m not 100% sure it’s linked at all, but I did switch my monitor before I started noticing it.

It’s pretty much near constant but only really affects the mouse cursor.

Edit: I downgraded the kernel from 6.11.5 to 6.11.4, it no longer happens. Maybe a really weird and specific regression?

Edit 2: Nope, it is still happening. No clue.

This env may affect something with the cursor:

MUTTER_DEBUG_FORCE_KMS_MODE=simple

I’m getting this same issue. Mouse cursor lags on Firefox or other windows sometimes, but not on the Desktop. I just updated to Fedora 41. A few weeks ago I tried the 41 beta before it officially released and I was having the same mouse issue. I wound up doing a clean install of 40 and decided to just wait for the full release. I just did the upgrade and was hoping the issue would have been resolved, but it looks like it’s still here. This issue doesn’t happen for me on Fedora 40 completely up to date.

Since it doesn’t seem to be a kernel issue, maybe it has something to do with Gnome 47?

I’ve been struggling with randomly stuttering mouse since Fedora 41 upgrade too (I am 100% positive it happened after that)

While I do have a wireless mouse, it happens even when connected via cable. And I didn’t really observe any pattern.

HOWEVER! I’ve noticed that switching AMD FreeSync ON/OFF on my monitor, resolves the stuttering issue until next reboot. (Don’t really know why yet).

  • Stuttering only affects mouse cursor
  • Wayland

You may want to look through mutter issues and see if anything resembles what you’re experiencing.
