when ever i open my settings in fedora linux the system freezes or crashes and nothing works either keyboard or mouse ,then i have to restart it by using power button.how to fix this
You should make sure you have installed all Fedora and vendor BIOS updates so you aren’t chasing a problem that has been fixed in an update and also so others will be using the same versions.
If you still have the problem, you will need to provide more information. Start by pasting (as text, using the </>
button) the output from running lxdi -Fzx
in a terminal. This gives us the kernel and Fedora versions and a hardware inventory.
i m still facing the freezing issue as soon as i open the settings it crashes.

[sid@fedora ~]$
kernal version
6.2.9-300.fc38.x86_64
fedora version
Fedora release 38 (Thirty Eight)
these all are details
I assume this is an older kernel that works. Please show us (as text, properly formatted) the output from dnf[5] list kernel-6.3\*
. You didn’t mention if you have updated the Dell BIOS and Fedora packages.
Please edit your post to make it easier for people to read. You can highlight sections of text pasted from a terminal and click on the </>
button, or just racket the section with triple backquotes (```).
I edited your post above to use the preformatted text tags as indicated by @gnwiii .
Please use those tags in future posts so it is much more readable and screen formatting is retained.
In case dnf5
isn’t installed on Fedora 38, do run
dnf list kernel-6.3\*
I assume a year later You remedy this issue.
My comment is therefore more others that come across this post as I did.
After attempting many paths to remedy the same issue I was having, as well as when I would have a good boot my HP would regularly freeze for short periods of time…
After going into BIOS; disabling and marking as “hidden” the TPM all my issues will resolved as well as picking up about a 45% increase in processing speed with a reduction in CPU, memory, and swap use.
Unfortunately no one had recommended to check this setting, Win requires in most instances the enabling of the TPM, Linux does not. A TPM it’s quite commonly he source of a lot of processing issues and boot issues for Linux.
I would suspect if the machine was originally set up for Linux this might not be an issue. In cases like mine where I wiped windows from a system to install Linux - the TPM caused me tremendous headache.
I tried multiple clock speed settings as well as swap settings. NOTHING corrected the issue.
One BIOS reconfig and every issue I was having was gone on the next reboot
Hope this helps someone.
