Fedora 43 MATE-Compiz spin.
Nouveau driver with GeForce GTX 1650 (TU117).
I open up a Firefox window. I grab the top left corner with my mouse and move it around to resize the window. The entire display freezes. The mouse still moves around, with the window-resizing pointer, but I can’t click anything.
I have repeated this 3 times in the last half hour.
This appeared in /var/log/messages at the time of a crash, 17:03:10 (I had a clock running on the desktop, which froze, so I know the time to the second)

I’d try setting widget.dmabuf.force-enabled to false in Firefox’s about:config, or any other setting to disable hardware-acceleration (about:support → Graphics → WebRender should mention (Software))
This sounds like Firefox was trying to do something unsupported by either Xorg (dmabuf sounds related with pushbuf and dmabuf is usually mentioned with Wayland) or some handling between Xorg and nouveau:

No, not yet. Because the proprietary drivers have their own issues.
I started in F43 XFCE spin, and have switched distributions, switched graphics cards, and switched drivers there (where I had to roll back to the previous Nvidia driver).
(Obscure Firefox settings)
I am not excited by this because I just tested and was able to make the problem happen with windows other than Firefox (chromium, Zoom). I think the problem is in a windowing component, not in Firefox itself.

That last clearly shows the nouveau driver. Please try the nivdia driver as suggested above. I think the problem will be solved there.
The biggest issue we have seen with the nouveau driver is that it does not manage the accelerated graphics with the nvidia GPU. Most who install the nvidia driver seem very happy with the results.
I have installed the Nvidia proprietary driver. We shall see how it goes.
My system has been unstable for at least a month, with at least 3 distinct sets of symptoms.
I was running Fedora 42 XFCE spin at the time. Since then:
Latest Nvidia driver (580.119.02-1) is incompatible with XFCE. Windows blinking in and out of visibility, Focus changing unbidden. I had to roll back to the previous driver.
Firefox window was crashing. Something to do with embedded videos, I think. By sitting on certain web pages I could get a crash within a couple of hours. This happened with Nvida, this happened with Nouveau. At least it was restricted to the Firefox window.
The entire display freezing, which is the current topic. I have been experiencing such a crash at least once a day. I had an inkling this was related to window resizing, but had not gotten around to testing it systematically because the other problems were in the foreground.
At work I am running Alma 9 with XFCE and the default Nouveau driver. It is quite stable. So the recent problems are something introduced with recent changes to some of the components. I am guessing it has something to do with the more X-friendly desktops transitioning to Wayland.
Note that linked info from the developer forums is based on nvidia 590.48.01
Fedora is at present on the 580.119.02 version so that may not be relevant to your situation.
If the crash on resizing is gone then this topic seems solved and the new issue should be discussed in a new thread, with enough detail for us to see exactly what is happening for you.
