Complete system freeze (kernel 6.14.8)

everything was working fine till kernel version 6.14.6 but, since today my system is freezing completely when the system is idle (i mean when i dont touch mouse keyboard for long) like when i am watching a youtube video, i need to hard reboot every time , i checked logs are not there when system freezes

todays update override the last kernel version with new one now i have to install that old kernel myself and rebase.

Your comment about your atomic system (using ostree) is off topic since the OP shows he is using the workstation edition.

I put the inxi output into a pre-formatted text block for you to make it easier to read.

thank you , i also have tried to do that but it made it like this

I don’t believe this to be off-topic as I’m experiencing this with my Silverblue machines as of yesterday too. The common denominator appears to be kernel 6.14.8 and AMD GPUs. My system began locking randomly about 20-60 minutes after a fresh boot, and required a hard reset to recover.

I have since rolled back to image 42.20250526.0, the last deployment with kernel 6.14.6, and the issues have resolved.

yeah it’s definitely related to this , kernel 6.14.8 and amd gpu

yes the issue is related to newest kernel

For noobs like me…

To use a previous kernel version the easiest is to:

  1. run this command: sudo grub2-editenv - unset menu_auto_hide
  2. reboot and you can select a previous kernel version such as 6.14.6 or 6.14.4.

If you want to make it so you don’t see the selection anymore you can use the following command: sudo grub2-editenv - set menu_auto_hide=1

Hope this helps!

you mean exactly the same problem , like when you leave system idle it freezes and no keyboard key works, how often its happening and does it happen when you are watching something online like yt etc

I don’t know how to cause the problem exactly. It’s totally random. I faced two freeze and had to hard-reboot.

After the latest reboot, system worked very well, but I don’t know when it will freeze in the future.

Maybe we could try to upgrade Kernel 6.14.9(testing) to verify the issue will be gone.

FEDORA-2025-a20fbfb231 — bugfix update for kernel — Fedora Updates System

its better to downgrade (select from grub menu) than installing testing kernel, i am using 6.14.6 and everything seems fine like before

If you are using AMDGPU you can try disable panel self refresh (PSR) with the amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 kernel parameter

sudo grubby --update-kernel='ALL' --args='amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10'

That made my system stable again.

thanks , i am aware of this kernel parameter but disabling PSR increases power consumption , i am looking forward to upcoming kernel updates , for the time being i have downgraded the kernel

The trick is to select lines not chars when clicking the </> button.
Or you can type the back-ticks like this

Here is
