Can't get a RTX 3060 to work properly

Hi, I’m trying to get steam to work on my freshly installed desktop with RTX 3060.

First, I followed this guide: How to Install Nvidia Drivers on Fedora | phoenixNAP KB installing the drivers using the official NVIDIA installer. I’ve managed to launch steam, but not any games.

(After being unable to login to forums for some reason) I went to the Fedora Discord server where they recommended to use the RPM fusion guide here: Howto/NVIDIA - RPM Fusion

I have followed that and now steam won’t even launch properly. I’m dumbfounded and don’t know how to proceed. I’m attaching some logs below.

Output from lspci -k -s 0a:00.0

[2023-08-20 19:21:31] Nothing to do

First, we need to know which instructions were used to install the nvidia drivers. That tutorial you linked is more than 2 years old, related to fedora 33 & 34, and also includes installing from nvidia.com.

We can get a very quick answer if you were to provide the results from
dnf list installed \*nvidia\* since that also shows the repo the packages came from.

The info from steam is not pertinent to getting the driver working properly.

Please show lsmod | grep nvidia and inxi -Fzxx

The steam issue may be related to using wayland and not using xorg.

I installed the drivers directly from nvidia.com. After that didn’t work, I used RPM Fusion.

That seems to show the nvidia GPU is operating properly, the drivers are installed and active.

How did you install steam? Was it from rpmfusion, from flatpak, or other?
Please post the output of dnf list installed steam so we may confirm.

I use steam with an RTX 3050 and steam was installed from rpmfusion using dnf install steam then run directly from the user account (launched from the icon). It takes a considerable time to fully install when initially started then with each launch it goes through the verification of version and does an update if required – all of which must complete before the app launches and is usable.

steam.i686 1.0.0.78-1.fc38 @rpmfusion-nonfree-steam

I have already tried reinstalling multiple times, always waiting until the installation finishes (as seen from the output of steam -v I have already sent)
