weird, not sure if it used to work or not, haven’t been on Fedora long enough to know for sure. If I have Signal in right half of screen, Files in left, I try to drag and drop an image but it won’t attach/drop in the Signal chat. It looks like it’s trying, but fails.
Does anyone know if this is a Signal problem or a Files one?
thanks
Are you using the Signal Flatpak from Flathub?
The Flatpak is unofficial for whatever reasons, but this doesnt mean anything. I think it is the best way to install the app, especially after this (long known) issue:
Flatpak apps store their config and data (when normally configured) in ~/.var/app/org.app.name
and this directory is not accessible to other Flatpak apps, even if they have home permission.
Flatpaks have no support for drag & drop yet.
Hi, thanks for replying
Yep, that’s the only way visible in Software app, is there another way maybe i should try?
Ah I see, so it’s basically due to Flatpak limitations rather than Signal specifically. Thanks for explaining, hopefully it will be cured at some point
Yes I recommend this way.
There is a COPR and also one on OpenSUSEs OpenBuildService. Always check if they have reliably long and succeeding builds, some people just build it once for themselves and thats it.
So the Flatpak is what I use and recommend. Zypak is pretty secure and the app storage is isolated.
