Can't Boot with "[FAILED] Failed to start plocate-updatedb.service" Error on Fedora 40

Hi everyone, my Acer Aspire 5 laptop runs Fedora 40. However, when I turn it on, I end up on the GRUB menu with options to choose between different versions of Fedora 40 Workstation (e.g., Fedora 40 Workstation (6.10.7-200.fc40.x86_64) Workstation edition, Fedora 40 Workstation (6.10.6-200.fc40.x86_64) Workstation edition, etc.).

I select the most recent version to boot, but I get the following error message :

[FAILED] Failed to start plocate-updatedb.service Update the plocate database.

At the moment, when I start the laptop, it remains stuck on this error message and does not boot further.

I am currently using GRUB version 2.06 and Fedora 40 Workstation (6.10.7-200.fc40.x86_64) Workstation edition.

Can you help me ? Let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

We need to see detailed error messages. I wouldn’t expect a problem with plocate (a database that makes searching for files faster) to prevent booting, so the last message:

may be a symptom of an earlier failure such as a corrupt filesystem or out of space condition. Tryone of the earlier kernels. If that also fails, try booting the Live USB.

Once booted, you should make sure you have a good backup of important files and then use Gnome Disks to check that the partitions used by Fedora have free space and that the drive is “healthy”. If everything looks OK, you can booting journalctl in a terminal to search for details. With the Live USB you can use journalctl to view messages on the disk where Fedora is installed with journalctl --directory=<path to journal directory>. See man journalctlfor explanations. The directory you want isvar/log/journal/, where is/` for the installed system or the location used (e.g., by mounting the drive with the installed system in Gnome Disks) by a Live USB.
