Cannot install HP scanner plug-in on Silverblue

I am new to Silverblue and want to be able to scan with my HP Laserjet MFP printer. However, I am not able to install the plugin when using HPLIP to set it up. Has anyone found a way to do this on Silverblue? It works great on Fedora Workstation using HPLIP, but not Silverblue. I know this has been a topic in the past but I have not seen a solution yet. Thanks!

what type of install is that? a kernel module? a run script?

installing RPMs normally works fine, if they just contain files. but sometimes they contain scripts, which may break, or simply not run when the core system is immutable

I’ve tried it both in the HPLIP-GUI method and the HP-Setup CLI method and neither allows me to install the plug-in. I assume it’s because the root is read only? When I get to the point where it asks me to enter my sudo credentials, it fails to install.

HP lip downloads and installs a binary plugin that is necessary to scan from HP MFP devices.
I am not certain where it is located for installation though it can be downloaded and installed from the local file as well as installed directly from the hplip site.
