After updating my System today I can’t Boot into it.
In such cases the first thing to do is clone the disk or save an disk image to a USB drive. Ideally the disk image could be installed placed on a disk in a desktop system with the same or later Fedora version for investigation and repair attempts.
We need more details to understand the issue and the resources you have to investigate and possibly attempt repairs.
- Which Fedora version are you using?
- How much free space did the drive have?
- Did you have the default btrs configuration with root and home subvolumes?
- Can you boot a Live USB?
It would be helpful if you can find a way to run inxi -Fzxx
on the problem system and post the output as pre-formatted text.
Added btrfs
It’s mounting read-only. There are also many read and write errors that have occurred at some point in the life of this file system, which could be related.
The fact it mounts read-only is good, in that it should be possible to freshen backups before you attempt any kind of repair. Boot from Fedora installation media. Mount the file system normally. And update your backups.
In order to know more about the nature of the problem we need to see: dmesg
and btrfs check --readonly
pointed at the block device for this btrfs.
Fedora 40 KDE
I had the problem now the third time.
After each problem I installed Fedora 40 from the Live USB Drive
When I tried to check the drive with KDE Partitionmanager, I had no errors or something.
The Install went fine for some days and then the btfs errors appear again.
This time after the Update from Friday (10 May)
Which Fedora version are you using? Fedora 40
How much free space did the drive have? 1 TB NVME Drive
Did you have the default btrs configuration with root and home subvolumes? Yes the default settings that Anaconda offers
Can you boot a Live USB? Yes
Well I need to see the errors, or it’s not possible to provide any help.
Also you can find me (cmurf) in the Fedora room on Matrix, https://matrix.to/#/#fedora:fedoraproject.org which is often easier for back and forth
