Hello. I’ve recently downloaded Pika Backup and enabled scheduled backups. After I did so, this message appeared at the top telling me background processes are inactive. I’ve attached the screenshot below. I don’t know how to turn background processes on. Some help would be appreciated, thank you!
If it helps, I have Pika installed as a flatpak.

There are two flatpak versions of Pika Backup. One for system and one for User. If you just make backups of your user data /home/yourusername/ then you probably can do it just with the second one. Otherwise I could imagine you need the system version.
Can you tell us which options appear when clicking on the three dots on the top right of the pika window (right side of Schedule)?
I see where you’re coming from based on what GNOME Software shows, but “system” and “user” are referring to the same version of the Flatpak, with the same default permissions.
The difference is just whether you install the app in a way that all users can see and run it (system installation) or so that just you can see and run it (user installation).

Pika Backup uses the xdg-desktop-portal Background Portal to configure the Monitor process to run in the background. Some distributions misconfigure xdg-desktop-portal or don’t enable the Background Portal. This will then cause an error when enabling scheduled backups. We have tested the following distributions for correct behavior regarding background portals in their stock configuration:

GNOME Shell will display Pika Backup as a running background app whenever scheduled backups are configured. This doesn’t mean the entire app is running in the background but only the Monitor process which only uses very few resources.
When missconfiguration is possible it might be worth just to test the other available one.
The one I see is the dl.flatpack.org. I can not see a fedora specific flatpak.
SOLUTION: It is actually quite an easy fix, all you need to do is start it in the autostart menu. I’ve included pictures below.
First go to the autostart menu in system settings and click on Pika Backup:
Then click the start button in the top righthand corner. I’ve already clicked mine:
Now, the error is cleared:
I’ve already tested this and it does work. The backup successfully ran in the background as I did other work. Thank you guys for all your help!
