Auto Login on SDDM in Fedora 42 KDE

How do you enable auto login I know on Linux Mint you could do it in the GUI settings. But on Fedora I don’t see the option & since I’m the only one that uses this laptop it should be ok (my fingers are tired of typing the password every time lol )

I tried editing the ssdm.conf in the /etc & ~/.config dirs

[AutoLogin]
user=
Session=plasma.desktop

[General]
NumLock=on

And when I rebooted it still ask for password to login.

Undo what you edited into any files manually. Then go to the following in “System Settings”. I just rebooted to see if it worked (I usually don’t have auto login enabled) and it worked without having to input my password.

You have to add your user by user=yrourusername, did you do that?

You may be the only one (legitimately) using it but have you considered theft or simply leaving it behind in a public space?

I get that authentication isn’t convenient, but having strangers access your data isn’t convenient either. Just my $0.02.

When I was testing, I still had to input the LUKS password. So there’s that level of protection if they’ve encrypted their drive at least.

But I agree. I still disabled auto login after testing and went back to being tommy-two-passwords.

And for a laptop that leaves your home and doesn’t just sit on a desk, that is IMO a must-have. Without it, anyone can simply access the data from another machine and auto-login really isn’t your biggest issue.

Still, I wanted to mention that there may be other things to consider.
