Authentication Error: Possible Keyring Problem

Hey guys

I’m having authentication problems on Fedora 42

Some applications, such as Brave, when clicking to open it, are asked to log in, but do not authenticate, even though the password is correct, as passwords work normally in root and daily login.

I also went to install Evolution and I can’t authenticate.

Any suggestions on how I can resolve this setback?

Here are some images:

I ended up completely closing the keyring, restarted the machine and the message is the same. Root and login working normally.

Did you change your user account password recently? By default, the keyring password is set to match your user account password. It’s supposed to be updated whenever you change your user account password, but maybe something went wrong. If you did change your password recently, how precisely did you do that?

It’s also worth trying an empty password just in case the keyring has no password at all.

If you are unable to guess your keyring password, you might have to delete and recreate the keyring, losing all the data. :frowning: It’s saved under ~/.local/share/keyrings.

I didn’t change any password.
According to some friends in the group, the F 42 does not have a root password by default and I put the same login password on root today.

Yesterday this problem already existed.
The installation is clean and was done yesterday, where I keep adding some applications, but this problem persists.

If I delete ~/.local/share/keyrings , what is lost?

The login keyring is locked with your user account’s password, not with the root password. Each user has a separate login keyring. Since you just installed Fedora yesterday, your login keyring password should surely be the same as your user account password. It would be extremely weird for this not to be true.

Every password you’ve ever saved into the keyring will be lost. Normally that would be all your wi-fi passwords and web browser passwords. But since you just installed Fedora yesterday, that shouldn’t be very much.

Your suggestion worked and I was able to connect evolution with Google Gmail.

Thank you very much @Michael

I put the same password in both options that were available.
