After f41 upgrade cannot run apps

Contrary to all my previous updates, I just booted my fresh new fedora 41 (upgraded using dnf from fedora 40), and even though the desktop appears just fine, I cannot run any app, the cursor turns to a spinning wheel for a couple of seconds, and then nothing happens. Gnome-shell is responsive, though (menus respond as expected).

Any tips on how to diagnose (and fix ) the problem? Iā€™m posting this from my mobileā€¦

This should probably go in Ask Fedora /info /nm

I have the same issue. I change the session Xorg and now itā€™s working normally. I will use Xorg until they fix this Wayland problem.

Yes that helped

Added f41

Thanks @skyeforeverblue , youā€™re absolutely right, I was in a hurry doing it from mobile, and ended up posting on the wrong place. Sorry for the noise.

No need to stick to Xorg, appending GSKRENDERER=ngl to /etc/environment (as pointed by @heliar ) enables Wayland to be used again.

That probably should be GSK_RENDERER=gl (or ngl or vulkan)

Hi @computersavvy ! According to this source, you should use gl for the old GL renderer (faster, an less demanding on the GPU, but handles some cases incorrectly; more suitable for ā€œvery old hardwareā€), and ngl if you want the new GL renderer (not so optimized yet, but more correct).

(or vulkan for the brave/lucky ones  )
