About to give up: creating a remix based on Silverblue

Edit: Made a separate discussion for the question here: Can you sell the work on refurbished/maintained computers with unmodified Fedora Workstation?

Is it written down in legal-text that one can’t simply install a Linux distro on a computer and give it to someone?

Technically if I offered a computer repair service, I’d be charging for setting the computer up and making sure it looks good (BIOS update/settings, hardware stress test), but not charging anything specifically for the choice of OS installed.

Like Windows I can understand (assuming the computer doesn’t have a key in UEFI), but FOSS Linux distros are free? The user would have an unmodified distro and can grab sources for GPL.

In Fedora’s case I would probably install it, and at the end of install I’d power it off and that’s it.

Although in that case I wonder what constitutes a modified install? I do Custom partitioning without Btrfs and LVM; it’s not default, supported by the installer, but does something like that count as a custom change?

The documented Fedora policy and terms I linked plus the GPL should be enough to determine the minimum one has to do to comply with licenses and there are plenty of other options beyond the minimum to go even further with little investment making it quite attainable by an individual or small business.

Since this has become a very speculative topic that gives legal advice without knowing the legal circumstances and legal entity (which make a difference in many countries/legal systems) and the legal system (in which the actor acts) of the questioner, and because this topic has started to duplicate another one, I close this.

The actual issue of the topic seems to have been effectively closed already anyway. If you go ahead in the other topic, please be careful with legal advice, and in case of a doubt, limit posts to what is written in our Fedora documentation and maybe help the questioner to link our documentation’s content to very actions they want to conduct.

Keep in mind that we cannot derive here what exactly the very content then means for the actor in their very legal circumstances/entity and their legal system.
