A problem with Samba file sharing

I am trying to make the switch from windows to Linux and I wanted to try to get everything to work on my laptop before i switch over my desktop. One of the things I need is the ability to transfer files to my iPad and iPhone, I have been unable to get it to work with USB, apparently apple goes out of their way to make this impossible, or rather i should say i can’t get past the folders that have a few of my random photos in each one.

I need to be able to move files to the phone with the files app so I have been trying samba and WebDav, web dav has not worked at all.

Samba connects but will not display any contents of the folder. I can’t put any secondary file apps on this phone right now or i would use somthing like file explorer or KDE share (I think that’s what they were called.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to :fedora: !

I am using Syncthing in order to replicate specific folders across devices (Linux PCs and Macs).

Additionally, there’s a nice iPhone client app called Synctrain[1][2], which can be used to sync with other Syncthing devices. Because of iPhone’s limitations with background processes, there might be a need to open the app in order to bring the devices in’sync.

This might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but it can be a good enough alternative.

  1. Might not yet be available in certain countries’ app stores yet, in which case it can only be used via TestFlight. ↩︎

  2. There is also another app, called Möbius Sync, but I prefer the app with better OS integration. ↩︎
