A full new installation of Fedora then updated then internet stops working (KDE)

Every time I update the OS it breaks not allowing me to connect to the internet I have to use my phone which is very slow due to not having many cell towers around me. I’ve tried to reinstalling the drivers and it cannot detect them from the repository. I have a Qualcom Technologiea, Inc WCN785z wi-fi 7. Kernel driver ath12k_pci. Kernel modules ath12k. How should I fix it.

note: I was able to reinstall the drivers by using "sudo dnf reinstall atheros-firmware. but still did not fix the issue. it seems like the drivers aren’t even getting read. I picked a pretty bad day switch to Linux.

It is a relatively common issue, there are too many devices to support, too many things that depend on each other, too many things to test against changes and too few people, sometimes things break.

It is not “linux”, Windows often breaks with updates as well, despite all the people who work around it.

I never had issues with Fedora updates but it can happen, that is the reason why Debian “stable” does not upgrade anything from one release to the next and it means years. In the same time, without updates you don’t get either fixes for current problems or new features.

I moved to Fedora after the distribution I was using back then started crashing whenever I tried to print something. Annoying but the good thing is we have options.

It seems to me that it’s related to atheros-firmware version 20250509-1.fc42

I got a new wcn7850 (quectel ncm865) with working Bluetooth but WiFi issues. Issues have been reported by other users too and the solution for now is to downgrade to 20250311-1.fc42

sudo dnf downgrade atheros-firmware-20250311-1.fc42

I just installed Fedora 42, ran into same issue with update and the @catlover999 instructions fixed that.

However I don’t have working Bluetooth, you guys have anything in lspci or any tips to install it?

Give your:
bluetoothctl list
lspci
sudo systemctl status bluetooth
sudo dmesg | grep ath12k
Should get some clues from there

I did a full linux-hardware.org list → HW probe of ASUSTek Zenbook UM3402YAR_UM... #cb30c3bea7

bluetoothctl list hangs, no return
