For some applications I have no choice than to rely on an AppImage. As I´m trying to understand how AppImages actually work I wonder what is the update workflow for AppImage applications? Do I have to to check manually if updates are available?
For update checks you can use a software like GearLever.
GearLever handles stuff like setting up permissions, adding apps to application launcher etc. and recently they added the ability to auto update. All you need to do is enter the github link and appimage name, for which you will find a guide in GearLever.
Some applications like Krita which are hosted in KDE’s own servers unfortunately cannot be detected by GearLever so you will have to check them manually from time to time for new versions.
Some rare apps like Heroic Launcher have integrated self-update function so those will automatically update themselves.
