Surface Laptop Go Kernel & Install Question

,

Hello all,
I’ve been periodically attempting to install fedora on my surface laptop go since 39. I have heard that this is an issue with the kernel, but I have not been able to find posts of any more specificity. If there’s anybody who could give me some more information or assist me with an install, I would greatly appreciate it. I’'m happy to try again and provide screenshots or any other info, but usually the furthest I can get is a blank screen immediately after install or media check.
I have gotten opensuse to work on the same system, but would like to switch, ideally to kionite.

Surface laptop go - will update with gen and processor etc shortly
Best,
Rowena

There is an recent issue in Fedora 40 related to the CPU on the Surface Go. I think the issue has been resolved but cannot test it personally.

Also, it may not support integrated cameras, as discussed here.

Have you encountered any issues when trying to install openSUSE on the Surface Go?

Hi,

I think you might be experiencing Fedora fails to boot after firmware update, freezes on Microsoft logo · Issue #1162 · linux-surface/linux-surface · GitHub.

There is a ticket for fedora here 2276695 – GRUB freezes when loading the kernel on Microsoft Surface.

In the comments of the issue there seems to be a workaround you could try though you’d need to adapt it for silverblue/kinoite.

Thank You ! Can confirm that the above workaround was effective for fedora 40 on surface laptop go. Will try kionite later and drop a reply with results.

Resolved, but In case anyone stumbles upon this: openSUSE installed with no issues
